Your mandate is not for that! (Stop ACTA)

Dear Mr. Prime Minister, other Ministers and representatives of Polish citizens.

Submitted for your approval ACTA document does NOT serve the interests of your citizens, threatens free speech, creativity and unrestricted exchange of thoughts, views and ideas. Many much more acquainted and proficient in this area experts have repeatedly presented similar opinions on that matter. But this is not the cause of this appeal.

The main argument that I am putting forward is that you have no mandate and public support in signing aforementioned agreement. As the representatives of will and interests of your voters in this regard you are directly, openly and blatantly acting against them.

By signing ACTA you are acting againt our will, against our interests and you are making damage to further development of our country.

At the same time I would like to express our deepest sorrow and embarrassment coming out of the fact that in the moment of weakening trust for European institutions, during the time of Europeans finding European Union to less and and less extent embodiment of their shared values and ideals — in such a moment ACTA-like regulations are being introduced for approval without any kind of public consultation. I also find it outrageous that representatives of Republic of Poland — country which by the decision of its Prime Minister at the time stopped Software Patent Directive in 2004 — now support even more restricting regulations.

Dear Mr. Prime Minister, other Ministers and all representatives of people of Poland: you do not have mandate and public support in singing ACTA. Be aware of that.

P. S. It is simply not true that signing ACTA will not influence in any way Polish domestic law as stated by Mr. Boni. Opinions reagrding that matter are linked in the text above.

SSD plus HDD Setup

Pretty interesting entry on Matt Legend Gemmell’s blog. I have to admit though that when you designate non-default location for your iPhoto/iTunes library you do not have to launch the app holding Option key every single time. It is smart enough and respects last-saved settings.

Quota Monitor Menu 3.0 beta ready for testing

The Situation: You have a Mac OS X Server with network home directories and disk quotas enabled.

The Problem: The Mac OS Finder on client machines does not have very good support for warning users they are approaching their file quota limit. They end up all of sudden unable to save files with little or no explanation as to why.
The Solution: Quota Monitor Menu places the user’s home folder quota status right in the menu bar. It will also pop up warnings at regular intervals. All warnings and text are customizable.
This is a general rewrite and cleanup of the code, and a few new preference options have been added. Tested on 10.6 and run in my organization for the last few weeks.

Check it out here.
